Kreativity

So, since I practically begged Padge to start a blog, she has been on me to accept my Kreativ Blogger award and answer the call of action. Here goes...

List six things that make you happy. Pass the award along to six more bloggers.: Do not give the typical answers and go for the less obvious, as you all know that family, friends, God, etc would be on the list:

1. Coffee: It is not just the caffiene, but the feeling of actually starting my day once I get a sip. It is not only to make it through the day, but it tastes good! It also smells great! In addition to jump starting my day, it can be a fun outing to grab coffee with friends, meeting my mom for coffee in downtown Noblesville, having a meeting for work, logging on to work somewhere other than my tiny tiny office with no windows and much much more. My sister and I actually bond over coffee-ha! It is "Hey! Have you tried the Mocha Spice latte at Dunkin Donuts yet?" or "OMG-the Peppermint Mocha is back-it's officially winter!"

2. Entertaining: David and I would be great cruise directors. I love all of it. Cleaning the house, putting the most normal everyday item on a special platter, cooking for others, trying new meals and making "tablescapes." It is so nice to have a house full of friends who are enjoying the night hanging out and eating good food!! I love bringing homemade food to other parties and try to avoid storebought food at all costs. It sometimes means late nights or early mornings making something special-but it is always worth it!

3. Mexican food: I don't know if it is the cheese, the salt, the chips or the margaritas-but mexican food always sounds good! I think it is also because mexican food is always eaten with friends, whether taco night with friends over, a big group at El Camino or meeting Padge at the tried and true Chipotle for lunch. Love it! Makes me happy!

4. Jack & Reagan: While it makes me sad that they live so far away, just hearing them in the background when Erin and I are talking makes me smile. They are the cutest two kids ever (at least until I have some! ha!) and they have such lively personalities. They are growing up so fast and I am amazed by what they say and do-at such a young age! I can't wait for them to visit in January. Jack already declared a sleepover and Aunt Sara & Uncle David's and told Mommy she can't stay-ha!!

5. Checking things of a list: I guess it is actually the feeling of accomplishment. I think this feeling of success has been a part of my life ever since we were really young and my dad always said "Do your best, that is all we ask." Now, I am a little anal, so sometimes I forget that "doing my best" is not necessarily doing everything in one day-but crossing off items from the list is just as nice! I make lists for everything all day long. I would honestly forget nearly everything if it wasn't written down. I guess I should have made my reasons why I love list in list format! ha!

6. Date nights: date nights seem to be few and far between when you live together and when you get married. I guess they happen ("I have to run errands so let's meet and PF Changs for dinner) but I mean the ones that are called date nights. Saturday night David even backed the car out, came to the door and "picked me up!" I get to be queen for the night, not cook, doors opened and doted on. A long long time ago I pouted about moving in with David because there would be no more date nights and him coming to the door and my heart skipping a beat when the doorbell rang. So, he promised he would still do that. And he does. It always makes me smile from within-a warm heart!! #6 just made me feel really old, like we have been married for 50 years :)

So, there, I finished (Finally, I know). But, since I was so slow all of our blogger friends have already completed this. If you read this blog and haven't done it-DO IT! On another note, if you read this blog and have your own blog that I don't know about-let me know!

Twinkies

Doug & Elizabeth hosted a festive "Ugly Christmas Sweater" party this weekend. It was hilarious!! While David and I didn't have sweaters, we were complete twinkies in our matching turtlenecks-ha!



Actually, pretty much all of the guys had on women's turtlenecks! Most of them wearing women's sweaters too.

The First & Only...

...NHS Athletic Secretary is retiring December 31st! My mom has been the athletic secretary at Noblesville High School since 1986! Wow! The school honored my mom on Friday night with a pre-game party and then before the Varsity game with a plaque. We even made signs to hold up with her face on them! ha! She was completely surprised!

Yeah Mom!! We are so proud of you!

Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers

On Saturday, David and I joined my mom, dad, lindsay and liz at the IU vs. Gonzaga at Lucas Oil Stadium. A. Ronda was going to join us but she was too sick :( Feel better soon!

I was super pumped to see the new stadium for the first time and who doesn't love throwing on their IU gear to cheer on the hoosiers, even if it is a "rebuilding year." :) David and I are only going to a few regular season games so this was another chance to see the hoosiers in action. GO IU!!

The TEAL REVEAL

I have had a few requests for a picture of the new teal wall in our bedroom. I know this picture does not provide the grand announcement this color deserves, but at least its a try!!

Again, I stressed about this color too!! Now, I am on the hunt for accent pillows and a cozy throw to go on the bed to bring the color down from the wall. But, I don't think those are such a priority right now.

Well, we had our first red plate moment! We celebrate our move and our accomplished work tonight by sharing our side dish on the red plate. I cooked my first dinner in our new home and love love loved the counter space!! (**note, check out the costco cookbook called "In the Kitchen the Costco Way" for great recipes!) I made key lime chicken and chili lime potato wedges-YUM-O!!

Our dinner set-up. The dining room is not complete and we do not yet have a table in the kitchen nook, so we have reverted to our "condo" ways and ate on the coffee table. The red plate is front and center with candles, champagne toasts and SURPRISE flowers from the men in my life (Harley & David).

This is me (duh) in my pink apron (thanks Melea!!) holding our first "red plate" meal, cheesy potato wedges! And yes, I am really this pale in person :) Doesn't the tan color behind me look perfect!! I spent way to long stressing about shades of tan, but we love it!

Getting Settled

Well, we have been moving stuff into the house since Wednesday the 19th and the movers came this past Friday with our furniture, so we have made pretty good progress. I wanted to share so me of the pictures of the house. Current status: living room is painted, master is painted, dining room is half painted and furniture is moved in. The Christmas Tree and the menorah both made it up in our front windows on Sunday morning and it is beginning to feel like home.

Happy Thanksgiving!

There are many reasons for David and I to be thankful this year...to many to list...but most important for our friends and family! We are also very thankful for our new home, for Harley (of course!) and for the few days off work to get the moving done! Also, we are very thankful for a laid back turkey day at my mom and dad's house. We didn't even have to contribute to the meal because of our empty condo kitchen and our crazy house kitchen-it might have been quite a challenge to whip up something. So, our nice mom/mommy let us just bring wine :)

We also were able to talk to Jack & Reagan on the webcam today after dinner! What a great day!!

Now its back to packing so we are ready for the movers when they show up at 8:45 a.m.!! Wish us luck!!

It's Official!

We live in Noblesville!

The closing was yesterday and everything went VERY smooth to say the least. It took less than a half hour! So, that left me with the afternoon to get stuff to the house and get ready for the merry maids to come (aka Padge & Mom!).

We actually got a lot done last night too, it must have been the excitement feeding our energy-because I could barely get up this morning! Most of the house is clean and almost everything that was being stored at Kipp is in the garage. So, tonight its more packing at the condo and then more unpacking at the house tomorrow. I see a vicious cycle starting :)

Small Dog in a Large Bed and Loving It!

3. We ordered him a new bed from costco-duh!

I thought his old bed was comfortable for him. I mean our dogs growing up were never treated to a bed in the house. But, little did we know that doggy beds could be so fluffy and big! Aside from the smell of the cedar chips that are mixed with the stuffing, this bed is a nice addition to the decor. (Much prettier than the old one!). I had to laugh at this picture because Harley isn't a tiny dog, but he just sinks back into his bed.

Wine Rack?

So, maybe this is why we are moving...our need for a wine rack or bar. In an effort to clean out the condo to make it more "showable" to a potential renter/buyer, we really made a dent on the kitchen. These bottles were in our pantry for the most part with a few in a tiny cabinet next to the oven. I was laughing so hard because I had NO idea we had that much wine in the house. David blamed my recent switch from Pinot Noir to Chardonney, but in true Sara fashion, I will one day switch back.

STILL for sale

We are now less than a week from our closing and still have a house for sale. Actually, now it is a house for SALE or RENT. We have had some strong interest, just not strong enough to result in moving forward. I think we have a few outstanding inquiries and then its enlisting our realtor to put it on the market. Wish us luck!

As for the new house, I have been obsessing over paint, to say the least. I think I have chosen three colors to at least get started with. Who know there were so many shades and tones of tan!! Actually, I did and I could probably pick the best one out for a friend in an hour. But, no, not for myself, it is taking several trips to several paint stores. Just this week, the guy at Sherwin-Williams told me, and I quote, "you will be okay." What? I mean of course I will be okay, I do realize that paint doesn't end wars or cure the sick, but I guess he wasn't getting that vibe. He apparently was only getting the "she is obsessing over TAN" vibe. Oh well, I can always re-paint! (David's worst nightmare!)

We have only bought a few pieces of furniture and are really waiting to get in the house and see how we live before commiting to any piece. I am currently on the hunt for a "funky" entry table that I can refinish or paint and a headboard for the guest room. I am considering the DIY approach as seen on HGTV, but I also think a neat antique piece would be cool. Lucky guests!!

Overall, we are really excited to make this house "ours" and are chomping at the bit to get started. Patience barely exists in this household!

Oh and if you are in need of a 46" TV, Costco has a deal on buying two at once so David needs a TV buddy!

So, I was tagged by my sister to complete a fun little blog game. I am sure she was thinking that I would never complete this, but here it goes!



I am supposed to list 7 random or weird facts about myself for all to see, then "tag" my friends with blogs to do the same!

1. I hate lightning. Not just like I don't like it, but I can barely concentrate when I am driving when it is lighning, it wakes me up worse than thunder and literally makes my heart race.

2. I can't fall asleep without at least a toe or finger touching David. This started a long time ago and its not like I don't know he's there...I guess its just a grown up security blanket. But, I do this while sleeping on the complete edge of the bed as far away from him as possible.

3. I don't like the ends of food. When we grill chicken or fish, David knows that he gets his piece plus the ends of mine. When its chicken, its the edges too.

4. I only pump gas to end on amounts of $.25, $.50, $.75 or an even dollar. It started as an easy way to balance my check book, but I now do it even with our credit card. It drives David nuts.

5. I hate loud noises. I still plug my ears during fireworks and can't stand to have balloons anywhere near my head in fear they could pop.

6. I don't like chicken in restaurants unless its in asian food. It weirds me out. I am literally too nervous that it will be "chewy" to eat it. The worst is a full chicken breast sandwich.

7. I am a perpetual student. I am a researcher who needs to know the why and how of everything and wants to know all details of the story, even if irrelevant. I should have been a lawyer.

SO...now I am supposed to tag some friends. Well, not very many of my friends have blogs. I guess it comes with kids maybe?? If you are reading this and don't have a blog-start one!! I need more to follow! :)

1. Jordan...she is far far away in Texas so thank goodness for her blog (and email of course!) I can't wait to see her over the holidays!!

Movin' On Up...

...north that is!

It's (nearly) official...we are moving to Noblesville! David can hardly contain his enthusiasm! :) No, really, we are both excited and it is barely Noblesville. If everything goes as planned (a good inspection and responses), we will close on a great home in East Haven at 146th and Hazel Dell Rd. on Nov. 20.

We love love love this neighborhood! As many people already know, we have been stalking this neighborhood for a long time. It went so far as we even walked Harley (at the suggestion of the Sterley's!) around the neighborhood and met neighbors before even making an offer. We watched homes come and go in the neighborhood, but kept going back to this one. We think it is a great opportunity for us for a long time! Now, we just need Harley's approval.

Updates Updates Updates

So...I haven't posted in a long, long time. But, since my last post I have completed the Lafayette Light The Night Walk, celebrated with Laura & Rob at their beautiful wedding and closed out the busy work season with the Indianapolis Area Light The Night Walk. I have been a little to busy to update the blog, but hopefully we are back on track now that life is a little bit back to normal...whatever normal is!!

Jaime & Kenny Levinberg

Congratulations to the happy couple! Jaime and Kenny were married Sept. 13 in Saugatuk Michigan. While it did rain the entire time we were in michigan, it was still a great weekend!

This picture is actually at a bar we went to after the dinner reception. Since Jaime & Kenny didn't have dancing, the band played a slow one so they could have a first dance. The locals loved us :)

Another one bites the dust! Its official, Beth Daly & Matt Forbes are gettin' hitched!! We are excited to add this to our list of 2009 weddings. Congratulations you guys!!

And two weeks later we are at it again!! When we all announced our dates and realized they were so close, we were worried it would be stressful and just too busy. But, we were wrong!! It was so great to see people from our wedding two weeks later and then again a month later! You started to forget that some of the friends didn't actually live here (like Beth!!)

It has been great getting to know David's best friends over the past couple of years and to grow so close, but their parents are also awesome! David and I love the McGonigals!!

VIP What??? Jenny made this AWESOME VIP passes for Ike & Jonesy's for the afterparty. They weren't real, they didn't get us in for free and they didn't get us to the front of the line...but we still felt important.

Feelin' Hot Hot Hot

We are back home after and amazing 10 day honeymoon in the Dominican. We were SO fortunate to be able to take that much time and make it the most memorable vacation we will ever have.

The hotel was beautiful and all inclusive-cheers!! We met friends on our flight from Charlotte and we had the best time with them and hung out all week. We took full advantage of the restaurants and bars and entertainment. I think it was the first time we had relaxed since we got engaged!

It was a nice break from the planning and "go go go" life we were/are living. We are happy to be home again, where it is cooler and less buggy :) And we came home to two great house guests and another fun wedding! Congrats to Erin & Keven (more pics to come!)

It's official!! Wedding planning is over-yeah!!

David and I had the BEST weekend we could have asked for in Bloomington. It was beautiful, the flowers were blooming and we were surrounded by our friends and family in our fav town.

We have had a great time looking at everyone's pictures and can't wait to get ours from the photographer. I will post more when we get them.

Thanks again to everyone who played such a big role in our day. It was definitely a team effort and turned out exactly as I had dreamed.

Da Dum Da Dum

We have now officially passed the one week mark!! My sister and her kids are here so we have had some nice family time and relief from wedding stuff. It has been great to spend some fun time with Jack & Reagan this week or so ahead of the wedding.

We are actually doing really well with our planning and organizing! I have crates and papers and binders galore (shocking I know!) so we feel really great about leaving on Thursday. I think I am more worried about being gone from work for 2.5 weeks! That, or packing my luggage for the HMoon. ha!

Thank you to everyone who has offered to help! While we haven't had that much to do yet, we truly appreciate the offers!

I will be posting pictures when we get back in late July. Can't wait!

The Count Down

Yikes! Oh NO! What? When? Those were my reactions to June 12, the one month to the wedding milestone...

As usual, David and I celebrated the 12th of the month (we have been doing this since last September) to get ready for July 12th. June was especially fun! We had drinks and dinner at Corner Wine Bar. CWB is the location of our first date and where we had dinner the night David proposed.

We are less than 4 weeks away to the BIG DAY. While there are lots of little things to do, my social calendar has slowed down so now I have TIME to do them-yeah!! David still has 2 bachelor parties to get through (including his own) before the wedding.

Still Recovering...

Last week we returned from a FUN FUN weekend in Vegas. I would also say a LONG weekend in Vegas.

12 girls for four days = crazy stories and lots of laughs!

My sister, Erin, and I were so fortunate to walk an incredible 39.3 mile walk at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Boston. We would not have been able to walk in honor of our Grandma Johnson if we didn't have everyone's love and support!! We are so thankful and proud to have such great people in our lives.

Two Months and Counting...

All we have to say is...YIKES!! The planning is real, the deadlines are real and there is so much to do!!

Any words of advice??

I guess TO DO lists are in order! Two months and the big day will be here! As David said on Saturday, its official, the invites are in the mail!

Bittersweet Day

As some of you may know, David and I do something fun and special on the 12th of each month. This month, we were to be in Bloomington celebrating at Little 500 with our friends. While not romantic...it would have been a memorable day!

Our trip was cut short with the news that David's grandfather passed away. So, we hurried home so David and his brother could get on a flight today to Florida. This is a really tough time for David, not only losing a grandfather, but dealing with the emotions of him not being at our wedding has proved very hard already. Please keep David and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Full On Wedding Mode

The wedding season has begun! I went to Crate & Barrel yesterday and purchased 2 wedding gifts and 2 shower gifts, and that isn't even the half of it! I guess it helps that I LOVE that store, but it always means adding more to our registry-oops! We are almost a month away from Kim and Matt's wedding and the three weeks later is Elizabeth and Doug's wedding. Then US!

One tiny update :) My dress is in!! yeah! So is my veil. I wasn't expecting them until May 1 so I don't have my shoes yet, so I haven't even tried it on. But, I can't wait for that day!

Work is crazy busy with a black tie event on April 18. I am hoping after that to get my sanity back and dive into wedding planning and training for the Avon Walk. So many desires in life...so little time!

Progress

There haven't been tons of wedding planning developments lately, but we are happy to report that we have someone to marry us! I know, this sounds weird. But, when you are not getting married in a church-you have to get creative. Rev. Jimmy Moore from the First United Methodist Church in Bloomington will be officiating. We are looking forward to meeting him on the 18th. Speaking of the 18th...we should have some decisions that day-yeah!! We are having our tasting, meeting with our florist/coordinator and meeting with Rev. Moore. Woo Hoo!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

What a nightmare! I just have to share my troubled travels this week. Here is a rough break down...
Thursday: (Indy to cleveland via chicago)
4:25 a.m. leave for the airport
6:15 a.m. depart Indy (a little late)
6:15 a.m. (chicago time) land and sit on the runway for 15 minutes because luggage carts were in the way of the plane-yep, you heard me, how does that happen?
6:30 a.m. deplane and run to connecting
6:40 a.m. miss connecting flight to Cleveland, get put on a 7:50 flight
7:50 a.m. board new plane
8:40 a.m. deboard new plane due to mechanical problems
9:20 a.m. they declare our flght closed and attempt to put us on another plane
10:15 a.m. board the 2nd plane (actually 3rd of the day!) and take off!
12:30 p.m. (ohio time) finally LAND!

Friday: (one way cleveland to chicago)
1:00 p.m. arrive at airport
3:15 p.m. attempt to fly standby, don't get on the plane
6:46 p.m. my original flight departure time
7:10 p.m. the first delay of many. our pilot calls in sick-can they even do that?
9:50 p.m. we finally take off

Yes, that is 9 hours in the airport on friday.

Needless to say I was WAY late to get into Chicago and meet up with David, Matt & Jenny...but it felt so good to touch down at Midway and get into a car.

I am currently boycotting planes, airports and Cleveland.

This Can't Be True!

But it is...5 months until the wedding! I feel like I just wrote the 6 month countdown post...boy how time flies. As I think back on the 6 month milestone, I am not sure that we have made that much progress in the past month. But here is what is going on in our wedding world. I have narrowed down the wedding invites to 4 choices and am simply waiting on a sample, we have ordered the bridesmaid dresses, registered fully at 1 location and even gone band shopping for David. We actually might finish that today-yeah!

And how could I forget!! The "king of the ring" and little miss flower girl have their outfits-and they are adorable!! If you follow my sister's blog too, you know it will be very interesting!! Watch out on the dance floor, Jack is sure to take over :) Now I am just worried they might steal our thunder...they are too darn cute!

We are lucky that time flies because the wedding will be here before we know it. But, it can't go by too fast...there is still lots to do!!

The best part is visiting Bloomington during this process!! We get to go on Sunday and then again on Feb. 28th!

Dishes and Gadgets and Gizmo's oh my!

David and I had a great time on Sunday registering at Crate & Barrel. They do these neat wedding events where you get to go in before the store opens, drink mimosas & coffee and eat goodies then go on your way to scanner heaven! You can take your time and there are so many people to help you, its great. We highly recommend doing this if you are going to register there! We went with Matt & Jenny and then did breakfast afterwards-thanks guys for a fun morning!

I will say I have the best fiance for putting up with my LOVE of green. Most of you know it as a sickness, but either way, it must be growing on him :) C&B has lots of green right now so I was in heaven!

Now onto Macy's sometime soon...this is way more fun that we thought it would be!

The Next Big Thing

A new year, a new job! Starting on Feb. 19, I will be a campaign coordinator for special events at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society!

I will be working on their black tie event, the Diamond Ball, and the Greater Lafayette Area Light the Night walk.

I am so excited! I knew that the right job was out there if I continued to look and although there was more time between IDI and this than I imagined, it all worked out!
