smiley girl

we've been getting smiles for a while, but we were workin' hard for those.  The past two days have been a smile fest and I love it!!  She isn't making me work as hard, has "laughed" a few times and at times seems to not be able to get her mouth open enough to show us how happy she really is.  melt. my. heart.

going to meet Grammy for lunch and errands - kicking off Halloween week!

This is just a little smirk, don't let it fool you.  She is capable of much bigger things.

like this...

going to go meet the Morton boys for a walk.  This smile was in response to a goofy mom + rattle.  Not the anticipation of meeting the boys I am sure.  She's too young for that.

I have even gotten a few smiles and gurgles during a diaper change - oh how far we've come!

Since we are bragging about our smiling skills, let's also throw the sleeping skills in the mix too!  Last night, Hads slept for 10 hours!  I am not going to bank on that happening again soon, but it was great!  I won't divulge how many times we checked to make sure she was breathing. That would make us sound crazy.

I think the smiles might be in anticipation of the special guests arriving this weekend!

Hilly Hundred

not only was last weekend a big weekend for David, it was a big one for Hadley!  David rode the Hilly Hundred and Hadley experienced Bloomington for the first time!

David kinda amazes me with his continued interest in cycling, and his desire to do the Hilly.  The weekend was beautiful, but windy. DG didn't complain or gripe about the hills (mountains??) and had so much fun! He was proud of himself, as he should be, and was pumped to learn that Mt. Tabor has a crazy grade, something like a 28 degree incline??  Jenny and I drove to the lunch spot to see Matt and David and the drive there was scary enough for us! I was white knuckling the wheel the entire time.  Needless to say we went well out of our way to get back to Bloomington so we could take 2 lane highways.

The celebratory bike picture!
 and with Matt
100 miles!!  (actually more like 106, but who's counting!)

The Hilly is split between two days so it allowed us to have more fun in Btown!  On Friday night we landed at Grazie for dinner with the Bolings (oh reminiscent of our rehearsal dinner!) to let the boys carbo load :) Then on Saturday we ate at Farm (hello Lugar burger!) and took Hadley to her first Assembly Hall experience!  The Hoosier Hysteria crowd was so big, we were in the balcony - but it was still fun!  David thought it was "easy as pie" to take Hads to AH, so he sees lots of father/daughter IU bball games in his future.  I had a different opinion of the experience :) ha!

On Sunday we were able to dine at Village Deli (yum!!) and browse the shops on Kirkwood.  Check out Hadley's first visit to the sample gates :)

gorgeous day in Bloomington!!

We can't wait to take Hadley back down for more Bloomington fun!!  We just need to find her a cheerleading uniform to wear during games.  We might have to wait for next season to find one that fits.

Jenny and I are already planning next year's Hilly weekend with a 14 month old and  a 9 month old!  Fun :)

two months!

instead of lamenting on where the time has gone, the little amount of time I actually have left on maternity leave, the sadness already sinking in, etc....I'll just post some pictures of our big girl!

Two months old!  View the one month post here to see how much she has grown!

hi mama, why do you keep making those silly noises? I will not smile for you!

after sitting up on her own for a bit, we resorted to the support of the armrest!

i'm this big now!

I love laying on my tummy and relaxing!

This Thursday is Hadley's 2 month Dr. appointment so we are gearing up for shots & tears.  I am anxious to see how much she weighs...surely she is over 10 pounds by now after being 9 1/2 pounds more than a week ago.

She has been smiley so much more, making more noises and sounds as she trys to talk to us (vs. just crying), is sleeping like a champ in her crib at least 7 hours a night but mostly 8, she is awake much more during the day, she finds her hand and thumb to soothe herself sometimes, is getting so much stronger with holding her head up, and we are currently working on napping in her crib.  Although I did let her cuddle up on my chest this morning to nap - it's just so gloomy I had to!!

The obsession with her continues!

We love our friends from PHX. It is fun to finally introduce the girls who will soon be best friends. Duh.

As usual jen's trip here starts with dinner at el camino and dessert at dq. Yum.

More fun posts to come!!

all in a name

could it really live up to it's name?  Is it a miracle?  or a fluke?  The Miracle Blanket might have provided us with a sleep miracle last night.

the small but mighty miracle blanket!

We go back and forth on swaddling...she is dramatic and acts like she hates it, yet it helps her sleep.  Which helps us sleep.  Sorry, Hadley, you lose.  We will continued to swaddle if we get....are you ready for it...8 hours of sleep!

yep! From 10:15 p.m. until after 6:15 a.m. we experienced uninterrupted sleep.  And she barely flinched all night (I might wake up and watch her on the monitor. shhhh).  She was even dirty x2 when she woke up.  If she can sleep through that, she can sleep through anything.  David even woke up and just assumed I was up with her around 2 or 3 a.m.  ha!

Wish us luck for this streak to continue! What is so strange and I cannot get over is that sleep during the day breeds sleep at night with babies.  She could barely open her eyes yesterday afternoon and was falling asleep feeding around 5 and 8.  Then at 10 was wide awake for her last feeding, leading me to think "oh great, now she has energy."  Apparently - it was a last burst of energy before a great sleep.

Yay Hadley!
