fair oaks farm

I used to pass Fair Oaks Farm all the time when traveling to the Region for work.  I always wanted to stop but on my way up never allowed enough time and on my way home just wanted to get home.

So, on Sunday when David and I were making the I-65 trek back home from Chicago, the words "oh come on - we're on a road trip!" actually came out of David's mouth.  Can you believe it? this from the kid who hates with a capital H driving!

We should have borrowed a few kids to take with us so we would fit in, but thankfully I am clearly cooking one now so maybe we fit in - at least just a little.

but, I digress. The point is that I love love love cheese and milk and cheesy, milky things.  This place is a gold mine!  You can sample cheese, eat grilled cheese, drink milk, eat ice cream.  Yum-O!  We didn't tour the birthing barn (ew) or any of the activities.  It was purely an eating destination for us.  But, I highly recommend making time to stop next time you are traveling up the dreaded I-65 route to chicago.

2011 is going to be an a-ma-zing year

Let's break it down...

• Moving Moving and more Moving! 3 houses sold, Aunt Ronda & Lins in Carmel, new house for my parents after nearly 27 years in the same house. Aunt Ronda and Steve a mile down the street. Wow!
• Babies! So many exciting blessings this year- and 3 born already in 2011! The newest little guy born to Erin & Keven just this morning! And many more to come in May-August. I am excited that we are at the tailend of our friends (at least until more make announcements) so we can enjoy everyone's big events in preparation for ours!
• First Birthdays! These are always exciting, and this year we can celebrate Owen, Evan, Chase, Olivia and Maisie! plus more I may be forgetting!
• Weddings! Our second wedding of 2011 is next weekend, and then three more this summer and fall. So fun!
• Hindostone! David is in charge - watch out! With the sale of Kipp, David can really focus on Hindostone, his staff, his sales reps and making 2011 the best year yet - and I know it will be!

It must be the warm southeastern breeze that is acting like crack around our house - but we are just so excited for what 2011 brings. And those are just milestones...let's not forget the small things that make the best memories such as weekends away, Bloomington in the spring and summer, Symphony on the Prairie, deck dates with our neighbors, bike rides and visits to the lake.

In the words of the best french fry maker around..."I'm lovin' it!!"

Fall Leaves

Aren't the only thing changing around here!

Maybe it was a busy summer schedule for me? Or that David was pretty much gone all summer? Regardless, we have done just a few house projects in the past month...

• We painted {or hired someone to paint :)} the den, upstairs guest bath and our bathroom
• David painted the laundry room
• We had cabinets installed in the laundry room
• I planted {with some help from mommy and daddy-o} 40 tulip bulbs, 7 hosta, 4 iris plants
• Today we have 4 trees going in and a new mulched bed in the back
• ••David had to remind me - new exterior light fixtures and soon-to-be-installed new house numbers!

YAY for completing some projects. Maybe 2 years is the magical mark for us? We will have most of our projects done by our 2-year anniversary in the house.

Now, if only I could find a steal of a dining room table :) {that comment is for David when he reads this! ha!}

I have no pictures of these projects, but will try to get some of the landscaping once they are done.

It's been awhile since my last post, and yes, my car is back to new!

This past month has delivered:
-a going away bar crawl for my friend and co-worker Mallory
-Jimmy Buffett concert
-a work trip to NYC for David
-wine and canvas outing with the girls
-the premeire of sex and the city 2
-new bikes and lots of bike rides
-cookouts with neighbors
-listening to the race with the mom and dad lehman and bob & bev
-the farmers market-planting flowers
-yard work-Junior League annual dinner (david won an award-ha!)
-Cole Keirns' first birthday - where did that year go?
-a trip to lake wawasee
-a work trip to atlantic city for david
-a work trip to New York (our home office) for sara
-a weekend in Boston

and we are only ramping up for summer!

A big WELCOME to the blog world, Jenny & Matt...

I knew you'd get on the bandwagon eventually :)

big. week.

Welcome to a whirl wind week!

Just a few things going on:

1. I am starting book #4 (The Shack)

2. My spring campaign kicks off on Thursday. Nine candidates will again compete for the title of Man & Woman of the Year. They are rock stars and their goals blow past my budget...let's hope those goals become reality! It is such a fun campaign - but a ton of work. I put some major customer service pants on for this campaign.

3. We fly to florida for the weekend. hola early morning with a 6:30 a.m. flight the morning after a huge event for work. are we crazy?? maybe...but a weekend of sun (hopefully), friends (the McLeonards!!!) and seafood and wine should be just what the Dr. ordered. Oh - an NO computers per David..I won't have any issues with this, but we'll see how he does :)

It is also the start of lent...believe what you want of course, but I do find that truly sacrificing something does make me remember why I am making that sacrifice - which is a great thing.

So...adios queso and vino. Those are true sacrifices for me (sad I know). But I LOVE cheese and wine! I am getting my fix as much as I can from mexican with the Sterleys on Friday, to grilled cheese on Saturday, to a WONDERFUL DAY OF LOVE DINNER at Corner Wine Bar for Valentine's day (thanks, David!) that included cheese ravioli and wine. Now, tonight I am making eggplant parm. oh cheese, how I will miss you.

That's my week...a big week, but nothing new in the Glenn household. As this campaign gains momentum, so will our schedules. yikes!

be the better man (or woman)

Aside from a random thought here or there, I have only really contemplated Haiti 3 times that I can think of:

1. 7th grade international festival - Haiti was our country

2. Honeymoon - researching the area as we are going to go to the Dominican (the closest I have ever been to Haiti)

3. This week

Obviously all of our hearts are full with thoughts of the devastation. But its the kids who get me - wow...I don't even have kids yet and its hard to see those pictures and see the footage. I can't imagine having kids and being able to relate to feeding your own children or providing.

Today at church the sermon was all about Haiti and answering the "why" and "what now " questions. They played "This is How the World Will End" by The Elms.

I caved

The rumors are true, I did join Facebook this week.

I realized I was missing out on some pictures and comments about the 3 cutest kids in my life, who also happen to live the farthest away from me too.

I hope it's worth it :) My co-workers are definitely excited. As are my friends..as Laura put it "good, we don't have to keep filling you in on stuff" and as Steve put it "welcome to 2004." ha!

New Glasses & Hair

I have been looking for clear plastics for a long long time and I finally found a pair I love. I also went one step closer to my "winter hair" (i.e. a little darker). I am impressed with Lindsay's ability to get me to do highlights too! ha! Need a good hairstylist? Lindsay at Style in Broad Ripple rocks!

A Growth Spurt

No, not us....but my vegetables!! I returned home from Florida to see tomatoes and a orange pepper starting! YAY!! I am really excited about the peppers. I figure that if I get 3 per plant, they will pay for themselves vs. the cost of peppers at the grocery. And who doesn't love grape tomatoes!

Hooray for Spring!

What a great weekend! The sun was out and the Glenns finally made some headway in the long list of outdoor tasks we have!
The yard was mowed, the grass "toupees" in the front landscaping are outta here, new bulbs in the flood light out back, new grill, new grill cover finally unveiled (after being in the package for a year!-thanks A. Ronda!) and new (to us) patio furniture (thanks Bob!)

That is us, waiting for the bus to take us to the airport on the last day of our honeymoon. I was excited to come home, actually, after 10 days in the sun and living out of a suitcase. Oh-I mean I was happy to come home as Mrs. Glenn and start our new life together :)

am i that old neighbor lady?

I would like to begin this post saying that I do love kids. I really do. Just ask Jack & Reagan :) I even want 4 of them. Yep, you read that right...4.

But, for some reason, the transition from condo living (where everyone was between 25-45 and pretty much kept to themselves) to suburban neighborhood living has been slightly annoying at times.

Saying that kids are everywhere is an understatement. But, let's get to today's story.

Our yard backs up to a court, so lots of other back yards. None of our immediate neighbors have fences....leaving a football/soccer/baseball field. I get home from work today and I am upstairs changing into workout clothes. I can hear the kids in the backyard and look out. Normally they are playing games or soccer (no big deal) but today they were trying to lift the grate off of the storm drain at the corner of our yard. Yes, the grate off the storm drain. Apparently I watched too much Rescue 911 because all I could picture was one of them falling in.

Now...onto the old neighbor lady part. Apparently their parents weren't out on their decks (I couldn't tell from my bedroom window) so I went downstairs, out onto the deck to see if they would notice me. They did and I said the "Did you guys drop something into the drain line?" a quick and slightly scared "No" was the response. But, they continued (the one little girl in the group too-bullies!) to try to pick up the grate cover. And then came the "You kids should not be playing with the drain, it is heavy and you could fall in. It is not safe." Yep-blank stares in response. But, they did leave it alone and go play soccer :)

Now that is it warm, it is crazy around the neighborhood-I hope I don't get the reputation of crotchety old neighbor lady :)

My poor kids don't stand a chance!! We can't get a fence fast enough!
